CSR and Sustainability

At Carlsberg India, sustainability and corporate social responsibility are integral to our operating model. Guided by the Carlsberg Group’s ESG programme, Brewing Tomorrow, we focus on four key areas: Cutting Carbon, Protecting Nature, Empowering People and Inspiring Choice. Through these pillars, we work to reduce our impact.

Sustainability programs

Through Carlsberg Group partnerships and community-led initiatives, we are working to improve access to safe water and sanitation while strengthening long-term water security.

Improving access to water, sanitation and hygiene in schools

Between 2020 and 2025, Carlsberg Breweries A/S invested in upgrading water and sanitation infrastructure at three government schools in Alwar and Mysuru through a project awarded to Desolenator B.V. The initiative has benefited over 450 children through improved access to clean drinking water, better sanitation facilities and hygiene education.

Strengthening water security with WaterAid

Our partnership with WaterAid began in Mysuru, Karnataka, in 2023, focusing on long-term water security through groundwater recharge, restoration of traditional water bodies, rainwater harvesting, greywater management and efficient water-use practices.

In 2025, the partnership expanded to 30 Gram Panchayats across Maharashtra, West Bengal and Telangana, covering communities around our breweries in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Kolkata and Hyderabad.

Improving access to safe water with Water.org

Through our partnership with Water.org, we are working to improve access to safe water and sanitation across the Ganges River Basin, including Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. The initiative focuses on sustainable, measurable solutions that address local needs, with the aim of improving access to safe water and sanitation by March 2028.

CSR initiatives

Our water conservation projects extend to villages in Alwar, Rajasthan; Mysuru, Karnataka; and Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. Working with local development organisations, non-profit organisations and WaterAid, these initiatives include pond restoration, stormwater recharge and decentralised wastewater treatment.

In Alwar, we are supporting a school transformation project focused on classroom repairs and improved access to drinking water and sanitation.

Building skills and supporting livelihoods

We support a resilient agriculture project in Alwar in partnership with a rural development NGO. The initiative aims to improve crop yields and water efficiency.

We also support skill development programmes for young people in hospitality and tourism across Maharashtra and Karnataka with a foundation.

Road safety and responsible consumption

We continue to support initiatives that encourage healthier lifestyles, safer behaviours and responsible consumption.

Community Initiatives

In August 2024, we supported the Rewari Marathon in Dharuhera, promoting fitness and active lifestyles. We also support road safety and responsible consumption awareness campaigns across Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Karnataka with an NGO.

Supporting education and school infrastructure

In West Bengal, we supported a primary school by refurbishing the boys’ and girls’ toilets and donating almirahs for the safe storage of books in 2023. In July 2024, we also donated benches to another school to improve classroom infrastructure.

Promoting environmental conservation

In Alwar, we contributed 10,000 saplings to local tree-planting initiatives in August 2025 and distributed 1,000 reusable cotton bags in June 2024 to encourage sustainable practices and reduce plastic use in the community.
